A&M-SA Journalism Internships

Journalism students invest in their own future

Updated: May 10

Journalism students at TAMUSA have invested some of their own dollars for this spring 2024 internship at The Devine News. Four student media outlets each contributed half of the money in their student club accounts, earned from selling raspas, corn-in-a-cup and other fundraising efforts at campus events:

Students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio are less likely to land paid internships and more likely to juggle classes and jobs unrelated to future careers, according to national data.

That’s why TAMUSA’s communication program is raising money to continue launch paid journalism internships at community newspapers near campus. Our inaugural partnership, with The Devine News in spring 2024, has been an outstanding opportunity for intern Victoria Arredondo to gain real-world experience.

It's a win-win: The papers get help staying alive and reporting on communities; students get real-world experience in towns near campus.
